Vladimír Zlý

Vladimír Zlý was born in Ostrava in 1988, before the Velvet Revolution. He spent his childhood and early adulthood in the border town of Český Těšín. To his surprise, he successfully graduated from the Secondary Medical School in Ostrava, where he majored in dental technology. He is currently a tram driver. As early as in primary school, he became drawn to inventing stories, recording them on paper and later on the computer, a passion that never left him. He now lives in Havířov, where his debut crime novel, The Cleaner, is set. He loves reading mystery books and crime thrillers but wouldn’t turn down an intriguing dystopian read, either.

The city of Havířov is being tormented by brutal murders, with local drug addicts, dealers and manufacturers being killed off rapidly one by one. Any hesitation on the police’s part could lead to another unnecessary victim. So Ostrava’s violent crime investigator, Major Ivoš Kylián, starts assembling a specialized team whose aim is to find and catch a sadist unlike any the city has ever seen. It doesn’t take long for the detectives to uncover the first disturbing fact—each crime scene reveals contradicting clues that point them toward a different suspect. It seems the killer is playing a wild game of cat and mouse with the police and thoroughly enjoying it.
