Peter Brown

Peter Brown (* 1935) je původem irský historik, jenž se zaobírá antickými dějinami. V 70. letech vyučoval v Oxfordu a posléze v Berkeley a v letech 1986-2011 přednášel na prestižní univerzitě v Princetonu. Je autorem několika zásadních monogra? í věnovaných pozdní antice a ranému křesťanství: The Cult of the Saints: Its Rise and Function in Latin Christianity (1981); The Rise of Western Christendom. Triumph and diversity, AD 2001000 (1996); Through the Eye of a Needle: Wealth, the Fall of Rome, and the Making of Christianity in the West, 350-550 AD (2012). Česky prozatím vyšly dvě Brownovy knihy: The Body and Society: Men, Women, and Sexual Renunciation in Early Christianity (1988) pod názvem Tělo a společnost. Muži, ženy a sexuální odříkání v raném křesťanství (2000) a Authority and the Sacred: Aspects of the Christianisation of the Roman world (1995) pod názvem Autorita a posvátné: Aspekty christianizace římského světa (1999).
